Introduction:- Sharad Pawar is one of 11 children is to Govindrao Pawar and Sharadbai Pawar. Sharadbai herself was active in political activities and was elected thrice in-district local bodies between 1937 and 1952. Sharad Pawar married Pratibha Tai. They have a daughter named Supriya Sule. Supriya Sule is also a member of parliament and an active political leader. He is one of the few political leaders who are active in politics but at the same time spend a lot of family time. Supriya Sule once said in an interview that her dad never ever said no to her about anything. He always supported her.
The first political act by Sharad Pawar was when he was schoolboy. He organised a protest for Govan independence. [Goa was still a colony of Portuguese]. In one of his interview talking about his youth, Shard Pawar said that he was the only family member in his family who supported the Indian National Congress.
The most fascinating, interesting:-
In 1967, he contested and won his first election from Baramati at the age of 27. He became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the age of 38. He also served as Home Minister of Maharashtra.
The drama and his life go hand in hand. He is the prodigy of late Yashwantrao Chavan. Yashwantrao Chavan became defence minister after the resignation of Krishna Menon in 1962. After an emergency, the Indian National Congress divided into many factions. Yashwantrao Chavan joined Congress U and contested against Indira Gandhi’s Congress I. Sharad Pawar followed his mentor and joined Congress U. When Janta Party was the single largest party. Congress U and Congress I came together to keep Janta party out of power. Sharad Pawar then broke away from Congress U and formed a Coalition government with Janta party and became the chief minister for the 2nd time. Later when Congress party came into power in the centre, it used the article 356 to dissolve the Janta party’s government in Maharashtra.
Homecoming of Sharad Pawar:-
Under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, Sharad Pawar rejoined congress party. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, there was a big buzz about Sharad Pawar becoming the next Prime Minister. Sharad Pawar challenged PV Narasimha Rao for the post of Prime Minister and lost. But there was no love between them and Sharad Pawar became defence minister of India. When he was defence minister of India (1991- 1992) he allowed entry of women in armed forces. He faced a lot of criticism from the army and patriarchal leaders but Sharad Pawar made sure his decision was implemented.
Mumbai riots and Bomb blast:-
Demolition of Babri Masjid gave birth to of Mumbai riots in 1992. Sudhakarrao Naik resigned as CM of Maharashtra. PV Narasimha Rao requested Sharad Pawar to take control of Maharashtra as Chief minister as Mumbai is the most important city to India. Sharad Pawar took control over Maharashtra and tried his best to bring peace in the state. Within a few days, he faced a new problem in the form of Bombay Bomb Blast. Actually, 12 bomb blast took place in Mumbai but Sharad Pawar deliberately lied in public and said that 13 bomb blast took place in Mumbai. He gave a report of 13 Bomb blast including a mystical blast (which never took place) in a Muslim dominated area and hinted that it was a job of LTTE (Those days LTTE was in news especially because of the assassination of Ravi Gandhi). Sharad Pawar had full information about the 12 Bomb blast done by Muslim terrorist but to keep angry ShivSena workers quite he gave a false public statement. What Sharad Pawar did was wrong but he is a thick skin politician who won’t mind doing a smaller evil for a greater good.
Why some people call him Morden day Chanakya?
One day a news reporter asked Pranab Mukherjee about the statement made by Sharad Pawar in Odisha. In one of his campaign ( When left broke away from UPA1). Sharad Pawar said that left may return to UPA. Pranab Mukherjee said that “ Sharad Pawar always gives mix signals “. There were rumours about Sharad Pawar defecting to Mayawati to break UPA government. But in reality, Sharad Pawar stayed with the UPA and did not defect. Sharad Pawar single-handedly created and uprooted many governments.
Breakup:- But no love lost
Sharad Pawar is a congressperson he has always returned to congress until 1999. In 1999, Sharad Pawar along with a few leaders like Tariq Anwar and Sangma created their own political party in the name on NCP. NCP was created in the ideology that only a native Indian born should head the Congress party and not an Italian citizen. In reality, whenever needed, Sharad Pawar has supported INC.
Sharad Pawar’s superpower:-
He is one of the richest politicians in India. But if you raid him, you won’t find anything. His richness lies in IOU {I Owe You}. Sharad Pawar always keeps his personal and political relationships separate. He never mixes both of them. He is someone who won’t mind giving favours to his arch-rivals, at the same time he is not ashamed about asking favours from his enemies. He will do a favour or seek a favour from his worst enemies. People say that if you have any difficulties even regarding money, You can go to Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar will help you or in some cases will call someone (banker) who will help you. On a lighter note, we should wait for Vijay Mallya to return. Maybe he can say more about Sharad Pawar’s superpower. In 2014, when BJP was the single largest party in Maharashtra and Shiv Sena was yet to join BJP. It was Sharad Pawar who kept Devendra Fadnavis in power for 6 months by keeping his votes abstained which gave BJP a temporary technicality to form a government.

Who exactly is Sharad Pawar?
Some people say that he is a secular, nationalist leader. Some say he is the richest, most corrupt, cynical politicians. In my opinion, all is true. He is an old veteran politician with a thick skin and a good immune system. Sharad Pawar made a casual remark to Narendra Modi after becoming Prime Minister. “ Nowadays you are too busy to meet your old friend “. PM Narendra Modi went to celebrate Sharad Pawar’s birthday. Actually, Sharad Pawar is an atheist. He is so atheist that instead of taking an oath in the name of God, he does so by “Solemnly affirming “.
Never ever cross path with Sharad Pawar:-
Sharad Pawar will give favours to everyone but if you cross path with him, he is the most dangerous person. Lalit Modi, Jagmohan Dalmiya never recovered from the vengeance of Sharad Pawar.
When BJP attacked Sharad Pawar personally and created an existential crisis for him, his legacy, his party and most importantly his family, Sharad Pawar fought like a wounded lion in the last Maharashtra election. He took the entire state away from BJP right under their nose. Sharad Pawar was successful in alienating BJP from their oldest ally. Shiv Sena was his nemesis. Balasaheb Thakre had said a lot of nasty things against him. Unlike the great Balasaheb Thakre, Sharad Pawar was successful in preventing his nephew from defecting. Moreover, he made an alliance with Shiv Sena, NCP and INC to keep BJP out of power.
Sharad power the most corrupt politicians?
Some people say that he is not only the most corrupt and richest politician in India but the richest politician in Asia. The amount of wealth he has can never come from the salary of a member of parliament. He is almost a Demigod in Baramati. In Baramati, people keep his photo beside gods in the barbershop and public place. Sharad Pawar makes no effort to hide his wealth. Everyone knows about his tremendous wealth but no one has been able to prove anything suspicious and put him behind the bars. He has won 7 Lok sabha election from Baramati and 7 Rajya Sabha election.
Conclusion
Sharad Pawar such a controversial figure that if tomorrow he goes for lunch with a politician a new controversy will arise. He is not the cleanest politician.
You may hate him or you may love him
But you can’t ignore Sharad Pawar.
His legacy is far from over, He is 79 yrs old and still is one of the most important political leaders in India.
